The HSM trilogy has given us a glimpse into the lives of the fictional East High Wildcats. Throughout the trilogy, friendships have been tested, and now, as they face the reality that high school is nearing an end, the tests are bound to grow more challenging. But how will it end? Will the friendships survive saying goodbye?

Real Friends!

Proverbs 18:24

There are "friends" who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. (New Living Translation)

What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about friendship?

Real friends are like family!! God's Story is full of wisdom on what it means to be a real friend. Take a look at just a few verses from the New Living Translation:

Proverbs 17:17 - "A friend is always loyal ..."
Proverbs 27:17 - "As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend."
John 15:13 - "... the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends."

God takes friendship very seriously, and so should we.

How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?

  • Take a look at your friendships. Ask yourself if your friends are real friends? Or are they "friends" who destroy each other way too often?
  • Ask God to help you become a real friend to others.
  • Ask God to forgive you for the times you may have been on the destroying side of a friendship.

How can we connect today's story, God's Story, and our story to others?

  • When HSM3 comes up in conversation this weekend, take that opportunity to begin a discussion about your friendships.
  • Find someone in your everyday life who needs a real friend, then make a commitment to stick closer to them than family.
  • Make the most of your time in high school by building friendships that will last, even beyond your high school years.
  • Pray for your friends who aren't following Jesus. Ask God for opportunities to share His Story with them.
