Take a look at my new grandson doing his Yoda impersonation...

I (Byron, the DAILYBIDE writer) am very proud of Reagan Tyler Emmert who is now almost one month old! He would be amazing just because he's another miracle of new life, but he's also cute - and so talented! How many babies do you know who can do impersonations? I'll let you know if he does more!

Who ya gonna be like?

There is someone we need to impersonate.

Colossians 3:10

10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (ESV)

What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about God's desire for each of us?

The LB paraphrase of today's verse really helps us understand what God's Spirit inspired Paul to write in Colossians 3:10:

You are living a brand new kind of life that is continually learning more and more of what is right and trying constantly to become more and more like Christ, who created this new life in you.

God's desire for new Christians (spiritual babies) is that they grow up to become more and more like Christ which brings glory to God.

Are you a growing impersonation of Jesus Christ?

My little grandson Reagan accidentally screwed up his face and folded his hands in such a way as to remind us of the infamous Yoda.

As followers of Christ, you and I must daily and intentionally trust God's Spirit to help us be obedient in our attitudes and actions because He has called us to be Holy, just as He is Holy.

Looking like Jesus should come out of character, not by accident.

How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?

  • Confess any way in which you have been ignoring the goal of becoming like Christ or any attitudes or actions which you know are not Christ-like. Thank God for His complete and amazing forgiveness.
  • Commit yourself to some daily disciplines that you know will help you focus on impersonating Christ - such as time in the Word, prayer, serving others, and perhaps most important - worship! Praise and thank God for who He is and for what He does so faithfully.
  • Whenever you see a baby, ask yourself if you are growing in Christ-likeness or are you still in the infant stage?

How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?

With your friends and family, have some fun talking about impersonations. Have they seen someone on TV who is good? See if anyone in your group can impersonate famous people or other friends and family members. Look for the opportunity to share how part of your story connecting with God's Story is that you want to impersonate Christ.

The Daily Bide is brought to you by a team of writers from Youth for Christ/USA. The writers all have various years of experience in youth ministry but share a common bond in serving Jesus and discovering what it means to abide deeply everyday and to connect God's Story with those around them. A number of the Daily Bide writers have also written portions of our 3Story® resources. You can check out our resources at the 3Story.org website or connect with our writers at 3story@yfc.net. If you have a question or a story you would like to share, please reference the Daily Bide date in your email.
